...I wonder

'Why so?' is a question I have always asked anyone who told me 'It has to be done only this way'. I never thought that was right except of course certain things couldn't be changed, like cooking or sewing, etc. As a girl (in India), there has always been a lot of things that I couldn't question. I was always shut up with a simple sentence that goes like 'Just do as you are told'. Things are no different even when marriage has come in the picture. After own family telling us what to do and how to do, a new family is replaced and takes up the same work without any hesitance and we live by it because we always did.

Most of our life time we spend listening to some one or the other and we rarely notice that we never listened to ourselves. Childhood flies by listening to parents and teachers. Teenage whooshes past with us listening to family, professors and friends. Later comes the worst part, the society. Every single person we meet tells us what is wrong and what is correct, the best thing to do and the best way to do it, the best college to join and the best course to study, for the love of joy they even told us what to we should like and what we should not.

At times I am sure we felt like turning around and saying, ‘enough’; but we never did.
WHY? I wonder…
